The setting at the Fairmont Ballroom was exquisite...

There were many nominees across Canada who came to the Dr Roger's Prize Gala at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel on September 25th in Vancouver. Among them was myself, Lorna Hancock, Executive Director of Health Action Network Society.

Prior to the event, I've always thought that my work was 'the MOST important work in the world'. I cherished and thrived on the accomplishments of HANS, thinking that HANS was one of the only groups in Canada that did what it did. Well, ok. Maybe it still IS different than most organizations, but today, several days later, I am feeling very humbled to have been in the presence of SO MANY other selfless individuals who have followed a related but different path.

We rejoice for Dr Hal Gunn (InspireHealth), and Dr Badri Rickhi (Canadian Institute for Natural and Integrative Medicine in Calgary), for having won the Dr Roger's Prize. They are very deserving individuals, and have carved early bridges to change. We also know that as great as these men genuinely are, there are so many more as well. At least this was what I was feeling when I left the Gala on Friday night. I felt humbled.

Some of the people I met included Professor Cedric Kam Tat Cheung, colleague of former HANS professional member, and now registrar of the College of TCM, Mary Watterson. The story of his long career, and challenges to bring TCM to recognition, are long and impressive.

How about delightful Edmontonians and fellow nominee, Karim (and Nevin) Kanji of the Wholistic Health Training and Research Centre, who joined us at our table. And, the stories told by Dr Joseph Pizzorno, of what it was like to found the Bastyr College of Naturopathic Medicine, now of Kenmore, Washington.

The 'Dr Roger's Prize Gala' is an inspired event. It brings together key people from across Canada to, if nothing else, network. Visit. Share. I am so very appreciative to have attended.

The highlight of my evening was to say a short hello, to Dr Marion Rogers, wife of Dr R Hayward Rogers. This is a unique family, this Rogers family - they've really touched the world.
