There is a companion article (link below) by Dr Brian Schaefer about his colleague, UK scientist, Dr Gerry Potter. Potter is being recognized for developing an important, hormone inhibiting, drug (Abiraterone acetate) being used for prostate cancer in North America and Europe.

What is quite delightful to know is that Gerry Potter is not just a brilliant man who understands the science that you and I perhaps could not, he is also ... a very nice man with a great capacity to love his fellow human beings, and because of that basic caring for his fellow man, and quest for knowledge, he allowed himself to be directed into other possibilities.

Potter came to visit in 2005, and spoke to a HANS audience at the Point Grey Golf and Country Club about Breakthroughs in the Quest to Cure Cancer. He spoke of his history, what brought him into the discovery of Salvestrols (namely amongst other things, a timely meeting with brilliant UK herbalist Anthony Daniels), and the next steps for him. The step into naturally occurring agents, such as herbs and foods, that can be used by people with cancer. The penny dropped when Gerry, at a point of last resort, opened his Christmas mail. There was a leaflet about Anthony Daniel's work. The spark lit the fire, and the rest is history.

During the lecture, Potter became emotional when referring to his family member who has since passed and how sad it is that scientists must wait while drugs go through their lengthy approvals before being able to be used by people suffering with cancer. Abiraterone Acetate is such a drug.
